About
the
Artist

Hi, I’m Hannah! Welcome to my digital art page! I am currently studying environmental science and geography at the University of Colorado, Boulder, with a focus in GIS and cartography. Although my coursework is predominately science related, I choose to spend most of my free time working on my various art practices. I have been creating art my entire life, and I owe a great deal of my inspiration to my art-teacher mother. Growing up, artistic expression was really important to me, and it helped me organize and communicate my emotions in a way that made them feel less overwhelming.

My main art form is photography, and I have been working with Photoshop and Lightroom for the past eight years. I also have experience with shooting 35mm film, and I really enjoy the process of developing and scanning my own work. My interest in digital art began my freshman year of high school in an intro to photography course where I learned the basics of digital photography and began an introduction to using photoshop. Since then, I’ve been hooked on digital art and photomanipulation.

Photography has offered me a lot of great opportunities to connect with people, and I have had some really fun experiences shooting friends’ concerts, graduation photos, family events, and various other pieces of my life. I like to document my experiences in a candid and expressive way, almost like a visual diary of my most cherished friends and memories. I also enjoy creating staged and stylized photoshoots with my friends, and I strive to create an environment where they can feel confident and comfortable expressing themselves as individual artistic subjects.

I make art because I feel most comfortable expressing myself in abstract ways. I enjoy writing, but I feel like my words can’t always accurately capture my emotions, and this is where I find that art can fill in the cracks. I approach art-making with an open mind, and I try not to limit myself to the boundaries of an initial idea. Experimentation is a huge part of my art process, and I try to prioritize the learning experience over the final result. Besides photography, I also enjoy drawing, painting, sculpting with polymer clay, mixed media collage, and graphic design. I draw inspiration from a wide variety of artists, including Picasso, Basquiat, Magritte, Dali, Klimt, Frida Kahlo, and Nan Goldin. My art is essentially an extension of my brain, and I hope you can find some inspiration or enjoyment in my work!
