Faux Selfies

Botanica Flora

These 12 images represent the character that I created, Botanica Flora. She is a lifelong lover and protector of the earth, and has grown so intertwined with the ways of the forest that she has learned how to take on the properties of the plants around her. The pollinators find her to be a calming presence and often flock to wherever she is. She has two rather independent but loving cats that often accompany her out into nature. The white cat is named Orchid and the spotted cat is Toad. Botanica has gained many impressive skills throughout her life in the forest; she can sprout branches out of her arms, camouflage herself into surrounding foliage, and take on the healing elements of many different plants. I think that I stuck to my original idea pretty closely, but I did have some difficulty at first with bringing my ideas to life. The compositions I created in photoshop are how I envisioned my character out in the world interacting with nature, and I think that the themes in these images came across pretty clearly. However, I did have some trouble with Illustrator and I don't think that the drawings I created are quite as detailed as I wanted them to be. I certainly feel more confident with both Photoshop and Illustrator after completing this project, but I know that I still would like to improve my Illustrator skills. Working with these programs requires a lot of patience, and I know that in the future I will more accurately plan out the time that I will need to spend on a detailed illustration.
