The standard resolution for an image on the web is 72 dpi.
The standard resolution for a printed image is 300 dpi.
You should always save a psd and a jpg file when working on a Photoshop project. A psd is the working file that allows you to go back and edit individual layers, while a jpg is a flattened image and is the standard file type for exporting a final copy.
